From the 15th-17th May 2007 the 6th OWASP AppSec Conference was held in Milan. For me, it was the first OWASP conference and so I was really looking forward to it and was curious about it. Now the conference is finished and I really have to say that it was the best conference I’ve ever been. I arrived in Milan at Monday the 14th of May and the next day I attended the training “Web Services and XML Security” by Gunnar Peterson from the Arctec Group and it was very interesting for me because I’m still not an expert on Web Services but now I think I get all the basics I need to dive into the topic and also I meet there the first few interesting people. After the training, Breach Security has invited everyone to a Cocktail Party where I meet some more interesting people and I have to say that everyone I’ve talked to at the whole conference really know what he was talking about, what was a completely new experience for me because at other conferences you’ve also many people who just think that they know what they’re talking about but in fact they have no clue of the topic, also it was funny to meet two other Swiss guys I didn’t know before. After the Cocktail Party some guys including me went to another bar to have some more beers and interesting conversations. I just can say that it was great, thanks to all of you who where there. Then, the next morning the main conference started and there where some interesting talks even if there was nothing really new, at least some of the talks made me thinking about some new stuff I can now work on. After all the talks, the panel and so on, we went to the “Social Evening Event” to have a dinner together and afterwards we went to the same bar as the day before but this day, Dinis Cruz had planned to form an “OWASP Band” which should play there. Then the last day of the conference there where also some more talks, especially the one by Stefano di Paola was very interesting for me because I never had the time before to have a look at Flash applications from a security point of view. So, this was just a small summary of what happened in Milan the last days and if you weren’t there, you really missed something.

My conclusion for the OWASP AppSec Conference in Milan is, that it was the best conference I’ve ever been to (also the most expensive) and also the people where just great and I’m looking forward to the next conference.
